Yellow Ribbon School

The University of Iowa is proud to be a Yellow Ribbon School. The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) allows institutions of higher learning in the U.S. to enter into an agreement with the Veterans Administration to fund tuition expenses that exceed either the annual maximum cap for private institutions or the resident tuition and fees for a public institution. In some cases, you can transfer all or part of your benefits to a dependent. Contact our Office of Student Financial Aid or our Veteran Student Services Office.

The University of Iowa is one of the nation’s top public research universities, widely recognized for its commitment to academic excellence.

The university is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) through its Open Pathway model for accreditation, which focuses on quality assurance and institutional improvement. One of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States, HLC accredits more than 1000 colleges and universities in nineteen states.

The University of Iowa is also a member of the Big Ten conference since 1899, and an Association of American Universities member since 1909.

At the University of Iowa, we value the service and sacrifices of our armed forces members and their families, and we recognize that the discipline, integrity, and work ethic instilled by military service translates well to a university environment. During any given term, over 700 veterans, dependents, and active-duty members attend UI, and an additional 900 veterans work on our staff and faculty. Iowa Hawkeye football’s Kinnick Stadium is named after Nile Kinnick, the only Heisman Trophy winner to ever die in combat. It’s no wonder UI is widely recognized as a military-friendly college:

  • Named to Victory Media’s list of Military Friendly Schools for seven years running
  • Ranked #25 on College Factual’s list of Best Colleges for Veterans
  • One of the best colleges in the nation for military veterans (U.S. News & World Report, National Universities category, 2016 Edition)

Our Veteran Student Services Office is committed to providing our military students and their dependents with the resources, guidance, and assistance they need to reach their educational goals.
